FREE Grassroots Course on 12th March

Football Queensland will be running a FREE coaching course for Grassroots football on Saturday 12th March between 9am and 12pm at Rochedale Rovers.

This course is of three hours duration and is aimed at beginner coaches of players up to 10 years of age. It is designed to give you a basic understanding of their role and to
provide them with practical ideas for training sessions.

After attending this course the coach will have a basic understanding of:

· What kids coaching is about
· What kind of activities to provide at training sessions
· How to put together the content of a kids training session

Each coach will receive the ‘Coaching Grassroots Football’ handbook which contains plenty of drills to last you through the season . The booklet provides six planned sessions to help the beginner coaches.

Participants who attend the whole three-hour course will receive an FFA Certificate, and will be recorded on the FFA database as having attended.

First of all, we would like to thank all the player’s parents for their efforts bringing the kids down to the grading and trial games over the last three weeks. Thanks also goes out to the coaches who have overseen the grading this year, Tony, Paul, Tom and Steve. As always grading is a very difficult job but we are confident that we have made the right choice for all players involved. Also a huge thank you goes to the parents who have volunteered there time to coach and manage the three under 12 teams this year, without you this great club would not be able to function.

Supporting the Rovers – Your club

Hi All,

Life at Rochedale will be different this season. Why? Well one reason will be that each junior team will have to share the canteen duties this season on there game day. This is how it use to be and still is at the majority of clubs not just in Brisbane but around Australia. I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but in recent years we have been spoilt by having the canteen run by  ‘Club Rochedale’. We no longer have this luxury so it is time to roll up the sleeves and pitch in. The real plus of this is that all profits from the canteen will go back into FOOTBALL and not ‘Club Rochedale’ as we use to pay an employee to run it.

Another way of supporting the club is by turning up to watch our first team play in the Brisbane Premier League. We are the CURRENT CHAMPIONS. If we can encourage as many people to attend the home games at Underwood Park, not only will it create a great atmosphere but it will create more profit through the canteen, more money for FOOTBALL. Bring the kids down to watch the games and get to know the players and that way the kids will start to feel part of Rochedale Rovers Football Club. This will also build loyalty and self worth to be associated with the mighty Rochedale Rovers.

Capalaba Carnival for Under 12′s to Under 14′s

Great opportunity for preseason games. We entered the Under 11′s in this carnival last year and great a great day.

2011 Sanctioned Carnivals

This year it would be great to see Rochedale Rovers SSG teams participate in a number of carnivals around Brisbane. Why? Because its great fun day for the kids and its also a great way for the kids to play more football. Remember, playing the game is the best teacher. All carnivals sanctioned by football Brisbane are for fun only and are not competitive, its for the enjoyment and participation of the kids. Sanctioned carnivals normally cater for under 6 to under 11 age groups.

Summer League – Centenary Stormers

This year we have entered the under 11 lads into the Summer League competition which is run by Centenary Stormers. All proceeds of the league will be donated to the clubs effected by the floods. Rochedale Rovers is proud to be supporting this cause.
The only reason we are in this comp is because of the diligent eye and response of a parent, that we were able to enter before the dead line. Next year it would be great to enter in a number of teams from the age groups of Under 11 to under 14.
The games are being held at Moggill who were one of the clubs effected by the floods. It is a great testament to the club the the fields look fantastic and you would never know that a couple of weeks ago it was completely (including club house)under water. We have already played our first game and won 2-0 against a very strong Moggill team. The boys played some beautiful football especially as this is there first game this year. Next week we are up against the Qld Lions development team and it should be a good match up.

Development training starts Tuesday 15th February

Once again, DF Sports Management will be helping Rochedale Rovers run their development program during the pre-season and through the football season. We will have an experienced coaching staff available with Tommy Ashton, Tony Casas, Adrian Davies, Mickey Rooney Snr and Mickey Rooney Jnr. This is a great way to improve your individual skills and to be prepared for the new season ahead.

The Summer clinic in 2010 was a huge success for the club  with over 90 players registered. It was fantastic watching the kids improve with each session and having fun. We hope to see you again next week.
